The Lund Student Ambassador Programme is designed to facilitate easy interaction between prospective and current students.

As a Lund University Student Ambassador, you will help prospective students feel supported in their choice of university and studies. They will turn to you for advice, support and reassurance via a messaging app called 'Unibuddy'.

Apply to join our 30 current student ambassadors, representing 30 programmes and 25 countries, and help our prospective students make one of the most important decisions of their lives!

Student ambassador role description

The ambassador role consists of a number of tasks designed to help prospective students in their decision-making process. The three main tasks are:

You will have your own Unibuddy profile about yourself, including your programme, home country, hobbies and interests. Prospective students will be able to view your profile and then choose to start a conversation with you based on similarities. Their messages will appear in the Unibuddy app (similar to WhatsApp) on your phone. You will then reply within 24 hours, based on your personal experience or a little research.

As you are one of the first points of contact for prospective students interested in studying at Lund University, it is very important that you share your own experiences. This will help them feel comfortable in choosing and applying for their future education here.

See what a personal Unibuddy profile can look like

As an ambassador, you will have the opportunity to occasionally meet and help prospective students and admitted students by sharing your experiences in a live setting through different types of events. This could be in the form of

  • webinars
  • appearing as a guest on an episode of the Lund University International Podcast
  • welcoming students to campus during an open day
  • doing a Youtube Live on the University's Youtube account
  • taking part in a photo shoot around campus, or
  • taking part in a focus group to help us improve our services to future students.

The requirement for ambassadors is to complete one activity per academic year. However, it is up to you to decide in which events you would like to participate based on your own schedule and interests.

In order to be considered, you must:

  • Be a full-time student at Lund University in the autumn semester 2026, studying one of the programmes or courses listed in the drop-down menu above.

To be a successful student ambassador, you are expected to:

  • Have excellent written and spoken English and strong communication skills. After all, you'll be communicating most of the time in this role.
  • Be organised and able to manage time and tasks independently and effectively.
  • Be able to build friendly/professional relationships with others with ease. In other words, you need to be a 'people person'.
  • Interact with others in a supportive, encouraging, and non-judgmental way.
  • Be enthusiastic about sharing your experiences at Lund with others!

As a student ambassador, you need to:

  • Be a positive and engaging representative of Lund University.
  • Assist prospective students in a respectful, honest and cheerful manner.
  • Always reply to Unibuddy messages within 24 hours. At the very least, let the prospective student know that you are looking into their question and will reply in more detail when you are less busy.
  • Attend all monthly meetings and required training sessions.
  • Take part in at least one activity per year. Activities can be virtual events (e.g. webinars on Zoom, being a guest on the international student podcast, Youtube Live, greeting students at Open Day, being in a photo shoot, taking part in a focus group etc.) or creating a short piece of video content.

As a student ambassador, you can expect to make the following time commitments:

  • A mandatory training session of approximately 3 hours before you start.
  • Monthly mandatory meetings of approximately 1 hour each.
  • Approximately 15 minutes per week for regular chats throughout the semester. Some weeks will be busier than others depending on the time of year. April and May are usually by far the busiest months due to the publication of student admissions results.
  • 1 to 3 hours of live virtual events per academic year. See the above section 'Taking part in live events' for details. Events usually take 1 to 2 hours and each student ambassador is expected to volunteer for at least one per academic year.

Benefits of the role and future prospects

This role will be beneficial to both your personal and professional development and will open the door to a number of exciting opportunities.

As a student ambassador, you will:

  • Have the opportunity to meet new people from all over the world and play an important role in their educational journey.
  • Have your video content, stories and testimonials published on Lund University's webpages/social media sites.
  • Develop your network by meeting other international students at Lund and participating in optional monthly social and professional development events.
  • Develop employability skills for your CV, such as leadership, communication, time management, organisation, and interpersonal and cultural awareness.
  • Have the chance to win monthly prizes for any 'Ambassador of the Month' who goes above and beyond.
  • Be invited to our biannual Ambassador Culture Night potluck, where you can sample food and learn about cultures from around the world.
  • Receive a certificate of participation at the end of the academic year.
  • Be invited to a thank-you dinner at the end of the year.

Even after the autumn semester, you are welcome and encouraged to continue as an ambassador for the rest of your studies (and some hours in the following summer).

It is fine if you need to do an internship or take a break in between. Just let the coordinators know in advance and arrangements will be made. There are opportunities to take on additional volunteer roles to carry out activities such as campus tours, photo and video shoots or other projects as needed.

There will be an opportunity to apply for one paid coordinator position at the end of the spring 2027 semester.

This position is for up to eight hours per week for the autumn semester 2027 and the spring semester 2028. If you are offered a coordinator position, you will be responsible for:

  • organising social events and meetings
  • assisting with the day-to-day administration of running the Unibuddy platform and the programme in general
  • helping to recruit and train future ambassadors.

Additionally, all other paid student worker positions within the Global Student Recruitment Office are advertised first to current student ambassadors. If/when additional positions arise during the academic year, only currently active student ambassadors will be eligible to apply.

In this video, student ambassadors talk about the benefits and why they think you should apply.
